Future maintenance and construction works on the Auckland rail network

To continue the upgrade of Auckland's rail network, there are times when train services need to be suspended to allow work to take place that cannot be done safely or efficiently while trains are running.

We understand replacing buses with trains causes some disruption, and we work with our partners to minimise the impacts while balancing project safety and efficiency.

Given the scale of works to be carried out, these closures will be a regular occurrence on Auckland's rail network for some time to come. They are generally delivered on weekends and public holidays when there are fewer people using rail services and there is less disruption to peak-hour commuter services.

KiwiRail is well underway with works associated with the electrification and resignalling of the Auckland rail network, which are being completed progressively by 2013.

During these planned closures, replacement rail bus services will be provided and special rail bus timetables will be in place.
